SURGERY....

We went to Shriners Hospital in Salt Lake last Wednesday for Taylor's surgery early Thursday morning.  Her orthopedic said we needed to put screws on the inside of each of her ankles to slow down her growth plates because her hips are now off 1 ml.  which is not huge but is significant enough and we needed to stop it before it gets worse.  Also a plate is being put in the inside of her left knee to help stabilize it (her knee cap has been sliding off the the side and causing some trouble to her).  Why we were in there she also fixed her fourth toe on her right foot.  The tendon's in the toe were really tight causing it to curl under the third toe so she cut the tendons to relieve the tightness and straighten the toe out to normal.  This was Taylor waiting for her turn to go back to surgery.  She was so calm.  She loves the hospital and did not even flinch when they put her i.v. in.  The staff was sooooo impressed.  I would not let them give her the loopy medicine before surgery to relax her because she wakes up so angry.  The doctor could not believe how she just hung out in the o.r room before they put her under.  She was talking to her about her birthday coming up.  So awesome that the Dr. talked sign.!!

This was Taylor an 2 hours after surgery.  She was coming back from the bathroom.  I could not believe she was walking already.  It really took me back a few years seeing her walk with the walker again.   Then the pic below was why we were waiting to be released she wanted to go out to the playground that was out side of her room window.  The Dr. came in at 6 and said that since her super star patient was doing so awesome she did not have to stay the night.  (thank heavens)  I just kept saying to the Dr. is she really ok to be walking on them already???  She said she was fine. I know that she has a very high pain tolerance, but this seemed crazy.   I just can't believe how well kids do.  It's like they don't know that they are suppose to act sick and hurt and not do things.  Our time at Shriners was amazing the staff and facility were the best.

what a tuff kid you have. Glad everything went so smooth. Soon she'll be running back up the stairs with her movies in hand.

Glad to hear everything went so well. Our kids are tough! And that is so great to hear the doctor signed with Taylor. Last time Zoe got anesthesia, the doctor was great with her and it makes so much difference to how she wakes up. I am sure the signing made Taylor feel safe and secure.

Wow! Glad Taylor bounce back from this so quickly. Surgery for our special little ones is always a stresser.
